The last time you stood in front of the mirror; did you moan, groan and wince to see love handles hanging from your waist? Did you turn sideways take a deep breath and then tried to draw your stomach in to see if things could improve … but it didn’t quite work out?

Then maybe you should check-out out the latest weight-loss diet routine: the Dukan diet plan.

There is no doubt, that the Dukan diet plan is one of the most talked about diets plans around at the moment, largely because of the fame and popularity of some of the worlds most well know celebrities who have claimed this diet as a  raving success.

The major question is: Can this diet really help you lose those unwanted pounds, or is it just another fad diet that just come and go – just like any other fad diet routine?

It is interesting that none of the celebrities who are presently advocating this new diet from France were considered to be overweight to start with! That would seem to suggest that the Dukan diet is not wholly about getting rid of unwanted weight or unsightly body fat, but it is also about obtaining a healthier lifestyle.

So what is the main ethos behind Dukan diet? The Dukan diet is this: it suggested food consumption is based on 40%/30%/30% ratios of carbohydrates, fat and protein.

What this means is the Dukan diet is based on low carbohydrate consumption. The Dukan diet, however, is slightly different than other low carb diets such as the Atkins diet,low gi diet or the 500 Calorie Diet because it is not as restrictive.

However, expert studies have conclusively proven that dieters who embark on fad diets generally regain their Lost Weight (and often more) within a very short time frame. Why? Well, the primary reason behind this is that low carb diets like the Atkins diet ,low GI diet and the Dukan diet  are simply too harsh for most people to sustain for any reasonable length of time.

It’s a physiological fact: we humans don’t survive very well with too few carbohydrates and subsequently if you fail to feed your body with an adequate supply it will usually crave carbohydrates until you finally give in and submit to it’s demands. And then once you have given in to its constant craving, because your physiology is now no acquainted to these high calorie carbohydrates, they cause you to rapidly but on more weight than before you started the diet plan!

The Dukan diet, like some other low carb diets seems to work quite well certain people. But the secret of making a low carb diet a success is the ability to strike the correct balance between following the diet to the letter T, or intelligently deviating from it from time to time to ensure that you are also getting some essential nutrients that are needed to keep your health at a sensible standard.

As with any diet plan you embark on – and particularly a low carb diet, it is always wise to consult your doctor before you start, just to ensure that the diet plan you select will not cause any adverse effects to your overall health and personal wellness.
